Pray To Be Free
Coldplay-endorsed duo make unashamedly retro offering.
What do you get when you put a talented Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter together with a Pierce sister and place a member of Coldplay at the mixing desk? Well, if you haven’t already guessed, it’s Pray To Be Free, the debut album from James Levy & The Blood Red Rose. A throwback to the salacious and occasionally heartsick country-pop duets of the ‘60s and ‘70s, Levy’s deep Neil Hannon/Adam Green-like baritone is a perfect compliment to Allison Pierce’s dulcet tones. The standout tracks, ‘Hung To Dry’ and ‘Sneak Into My Room’, are positively classic sounding songs that are sure to establish the duo as this generation’s Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood. Remember where you read it first.
