It's official! After an initial delay, the sensational new app can be simply downloaded in Ireland.
Hot Press has been tracking the state of play with Pokémon GO all week. Well, here’s the good news: the game is now officially available in Ireland on Android and iOS.
With the success of the game all over the world, Irish gamers had been doing what gamers do: using hacks and other ‘unofficial’ methods to get the phenomenon working on their phones. Well, that phase is over.
As fans will of course know, Pokémon GO is a free game, created by Nintendo, which utilises Augmented Reality technology to superimpose computer-generated characters on the real world. The challenge is then to catch these chimera. The app notifies users of nearby Pokémon, as well as gyms, landmarks, events and players. You can scan the surrounding area in the hope of finding wild Pokémon that might be lurking close at hand.

The game has proven wildly successful in its first week of availability in the US and elsewhere. Reports suggest that ut is already running on 5% of Android-based mobiles, with almost the same number of so called ‘daily active users’ as Twitter.
Ireland is now on a list of 26 countries where the app can be downloaded. You have been warned. Be careful out there!
