Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder performed a cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'My City of Ruins' at a concert in Pittsburgh last Friday.
Although Vedder did not directly mention Donald Trump, the choice of song was seen as an act of solidarity towards his fellow singer, after the US President attacked Springsteen on social media for speaking out against him.
In the opening night for his Land of Hope & Dreams Tour in Manchester, Springsteen performed 'My City of Ruins' with an added speech at the beginning in which he criticised the current US administration.
“In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration,” said a part of Springsteen's speech.
Trump responded by calling Springsteen “dumb as a rock” and threatening to prevent him from returning to the US after his tour finishes.

In 2009, Vedder had previously performed the same cover at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to honour Springsteen receiving a medal of honour for contribution to American culture.
The Kennedy Center has been surrounded by controversy recently after all its board members were fired and Trump was appointed as its chairman by staff he had hired. Many artists, including Lin Manuel Miranda, have responded by cancelling their scheduled shows in the venue.
