Paramore's Hayley Williams given writing credit on Olivia Rodrigo's 'Good 4 U'
The credit comes nearly four months after the release of Rodrigo's album 'Sour'.
Hayley Williams and Josh Farro – Paramore's frontwoman and guitarist – have appeared in the songwriting credits for Olivia Rodrigo's 'Good 4 U'.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) have noted that both Williams and Farro (who left Paramore in 2010) are listed as co-writers alongside Rodrigo and producer Dan Nigro.
When Billboard published the full song credits in May, the month 'Good 4 U' was released, Williams and Farro were not credited.
Williams alerted fans to the change on her Instagram Story, where she shared a screenshot of a post from Warner Chapell Music that highlighted the song's peak on the US Top 40 Chart.
The original post gave a “huge shoutout to our writers Hayley Williams [and] Joshua Farro”, to which Williams added: “Our publisher is wildin rn”.
The circumstances around the surprise amendment are not clear at this time. However, writers for Entertainment Weekly and Vulture and fans have noticed similarities between ‘Good 4 U’ and Paramore’s 2007 hit ‘Misery Business', and a mashup of the two songs went viral and has over 2 million YouTube views.
Rodrigo’s debut album was released in May, and also lists Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff as songwriters on the track ‘1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back’, due to the fact that it uses melodies from Swift’s ‘New Year’s Day’.
Listen to the mashup below.
