Overmono announce new album Pure Devotion and share first single ‘Lockup’
The new record is due out on August 7 via XL Recordings.
Electronic duo Overmono, made up of brothers Tom and Ed Russell, have announced their new album Pure Devotion, due out on August 7 via XL Recordings.
Today, they also share the record’s lead single ‘Lockup’, a tune inspired by Simon Reynolds’ book Rip it Up and Start Again, and using samples from cult Birmingham band Fast Relief’s ‘What A Waste’.
The accompanying music video was shot and directed by long-time collaborator Rollo Jackson.
Check it out below:
Speaking of the new record, Tom and Ed said: “For us, making music has always been about having fun. Being in the studio together, having a laugh. a never ending process of exploring new ways of making tunes. Forever learning, always trying to get better.
“With this album we wanted to try make something that captured the physical space of our studios. Setting up loads of ways of processing, recording, resamping sounds…. We ran tape over magnets, blew up some speakers and finally utilised that dirt cheap overclocked FX unit we snaffled years ago in Bromley. We even oven baked a cymbal covered in coffee grounds, crisps and vinegar - thank you Sylvia Massy for that one”
Since the release of their critically acclaimed debut abum Good Lies in 2023, Overmono have closed Glastonbury’s West Holts stage, sold out London’s 10,000 capacity venue Alexandra Palace, headlined and curated Manchester’s Warehouse Project and toured across the USA, Australia and Japan.
They also collaborated with the likes of Joy Orbison, High Contrast, Fred Again, Lil Yachty, Kwengface, and The Streets.
