Outta Here
Songbird not ready to take flight
Discovered by former Mouseketeer Justin Timberlake, and promptly signed to his label, Dutch diva Esmee Denters’ debut is a Frankenstein’s monster of a record. Before she hit the big time, she covered Pink and Beyonce and posted the results on YouTube, a reasonably accurate expression of where she’s coming from: in many ways she’s just a songbird for sale. She has talent, but overall, there isn’t much evidence of originality on Outta Here. You can hear Rihanna on the title track and the aforementioned Beyonce on ‘Admit It’, but the only real highlight is the duet with her boss on ‘Love Dealer.’ I’m sure she’s capable of better.
