On The Edge Of A Dream
Unlike most machine dependent house producers, Canadian Marcus Turcotte knows how to inject a musical edge to his interpretation of the sound.
Unlike most machine dependent house producers, Canadian Marcus Turcotte knows how to inject a musical edge to his interpretation of the sound.
A classically trained musician, Turcotte plays the guitar, keys, bass and even sings on his debut Sirus album.
Every track here provokes a feeling or a vibe, characteristics often lacking in dance music. There’s the ultra deep single, ‘Big Ben’, a tune hammered by every self respecting house DJ over recent months, the melancholy air of ‘Thunder, An Eye For An Eye’, a Detroit-inspired groove, and the Afro-influenced rhythmic shuffle of ‘Shaman’.
However, to find the true essence of Turcotte’s talents, check the title track, where a combination of acoustic guitar strumming, synth washes and live drumming underpin his deeply emotional vocals.
