NWA, Deep Purple and Steve Miller Inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
NWA, Deep Purple, Steve Miller, Chicago and Cheap Trick all to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
The inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2016 have been announced with NWA making the cut after what has been a big year for them with the release of biopic Straight Outta Compton.
The long list that was announced back in October featured acts such as The Smiths, Chic, Chaka Khan, Nine Inch Nails and Janet Jackson. Many fans expected The Smiths to get nod but this year has not gone Morrissey's way, after been dropped by his record label last year he has been finding it difficult to find a new home, he also released his first novel List of the Lost to mostly negative reviews. Most notably he's being slatted for two outrageous sex scenes that appear in the novel. Other long list nominees such as Chic were expected to be inducted as they have enjoyed a hugely successful revival over the last number of years.
N.W.A. are very much the new boys on the block as the other four acts that were announced today are very much 70's rock icons.
Deep Purples induction may come as a bit of a surprise to some, frontman Ian Gillan was openly critical of the Hall of Fame in an interview with Classic Rock back in October. Miller was quoted as saying “I have no respect for them. They’re the kind of people that having seen A Hard Day’s Night decided that The Monkees would be America’s equivalent to The Beatles.”
The ceremony takes place in New York next April with many of the acts including N.W.A. expected to perform at the event.
