Normal People's Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones make Forbes '30 under 30' list
The new list spotlights “some of Europe’s most popular social media entertainers as well as the continent’s most promising talents.”
Kildare native Paul Mescal has been named on Forbes' '30 under 30' in Europe 2021 list alongside fellow Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones.
The list highlights innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders aged under 30 who are seen as transforming business, technology, finance, media, healthcare, science, policy, social entrepreneurship, retail, the arts and entertainment industries.
“As well as playing the title role in Martin McDonagh's critically-acclaimed The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Mescal is due to star in Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut The Lost Daughter, and as the lead in Benjamin Millepied's Carmen," Forbes said of the Irish actor.
Irish-Bangladeshi musician Joy Crookes also made the Entertainment list after earning a spot on the shortlist for the Rising Star Award at the 2020 BRIT Awards and fourth place on the BBC Sound of 2020 list.
26-year-old Belfast artist Jack Coulter was also included, after his works were sold to big names like Anne Hathaway, Paul McCartney, Patti Smith, Coca-Cola, the Freddy Mercury Estate and more in recent years.
Another Irishman to be named in the Entertainment category is Neil Dunne, who co-founded the audio analysis company Andrson. The digital A&R platform connects unsigned musicians with music industry professionals.
Tech startup co-founders Fiona Edwards Murphy and Elizabeth Gilligan, Cork rower Paul O'Donovan, West Cork native Fionn Ferreira, Ireland-based architect Ralf Alwani, Dublin-based fintech company co-founder William Conagha were other Irish names on the list. Ferreira is the founder and chief executive of Fionn & Co., a company dedicated to removing microplastics from water.
In the music and film categories, the likes of Arlo Parks, KSI, Girl In Red, MNEK, Ms Banks, Mahalia, Shygirl, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm star Maria Bakalova and Emma Corrin - who played Princess Diana in season four of Netflix's The Crown - were named.
The Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe Entertainment list for 2021 was put together by judges including Years & Years‘ Olly Alexander, TikTok’s Gina Jackson, Amazon Studios’ Georgia Brown and more.
