No Ghost
Kanye West’s fave indie moochers come unstuck on second album
Canadian indie folk act The Acorn seem to have a bit of a problem. Having received praise for their beautiful debut record Glory Hope Mountain from all corners of the world (everyone from Guy Garvey to Kanye West loved it) their follow up No Ghost lacks the subtlety and intimacy of its predecessor. It’s not a bad record, but by abandoning the elements that made them memorable in favour of squalling feedback and rumbling drums, they’ve lost that spark of genius. Sometimes it works (‘Restoration’) and sometimes it doesn’t (‘Cobbled From Dust’). No Ghost won’t be hailed as a classic any time soon.
