Bristol house label Nrk deliver the third chapter of their Nite:Life mix project, with San Fran man Miguel Migs at the helm. Mr Migs has had a pretty good year so far: a plethora of releases on Large, Yoshi Toshi and Nrk and the like. His take on house music is, as he puts it, ‘Deep, deep, deep’, which should give you an inkling of what’s on offer here. 17 tracks of the deeper stuff, then. But don’t let that put you off. Migs’ selection rarely strays into noodle territory, moving from gentle vocal workouts to tougher dancefloor tackle, before grinding to a halt with two delightful dub numbers, all served with a healthy dash of funk throughout. Standouts include Migs’ own eighties-tinged ‘Petalpushing’, Big C from Groove Armada’s ‘Loves Theme’ and the dub-tastic ‘Andub Head Yudu’. The mixing is seamless, nothing particularly fancy, but it’s Migs’ track selection that makes the seventy-odd minutes glide by. Ideal for the wee small hours.
