New video debuts for Leonard Cohen’s posthumous ‘Thanks For The Dance’
The video for the title track from Leonard Cohen’s critically acclaimed posthumous release Thanks For The Dance, premiered today. The singer died four years ago.
London-based photographer Harley Weir is the latest contemporary artist to share her stunning artistic interpretation of ‘Thanks For The Dance’. “I’m a huge fan of Leonard Cohen,” says Weir. “His lyrics are so raw and yet so warm. I am honoured to be a part of his legacy.”
American actress Rowan Blanchard plays a bride caught between the different stages of life and British model and actor Lily Cole poses as Botticelli’s Venus and the Madonna.
Released last year, and nominated for a 2020 JUNO Award for ‘Adult Alternative Album of the Year’, Thanks For The Dance was an unexpected harvest of new songs from Cohen.
Friends and colleagues gathered to support and complete the work he had started, making an album that echoes the sounds of his catalogue, yet remains fresh, current and impactful.
Weir’s music video is part of a series of visuals made for Thanks for the Dance by Nowness in collaboration with the Leonard Cohen estate and Sony Music Canada. Her contribution follows previous directors like Daniel Askill and Laure Prouvost.
