New Festival for Dublin: Carnaval
Starts March 2.
Soon you can be the first to experience the first year of a new event in Dublin. "Carnaval"
On March 2, Sweeney's Bar, Dame Street, Dublin, will be transformed into an eclectic emporium of Latin festivities, from Cuba to Brazil to New Orleans & beyond, by hosting 3 floors of music and culture, all for free.
In terms of music, there will be Manden Express, who blend traditional Malian melodies with hypnotic bass grooves. There will also be Carlinhos Cruz, who will bring a bucket of Brazilian pop hits to the mix while The Baque Soul Band who are comprised of artists from Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela will create a fusion of rhythms such as funk, soul, samba and even hip hop.
On the Sunday our very own house band The Jazz Men who regularly play in Sweeney's will be swooning you with their Dixieland-Irish swagger in celebration of ‘Carnaval’.
But that's not all! The New Latin Percussionists will be opening up the day at 4pm with a drum beat to welcome you while well known DJ's such as DJ'ackulate, Lex Woo & Worries Outernational will be banging out tunes in the basement until late to keep you dancing.
For those of you who prefer their culture in liquid form, Havana Club has partnered with them so you can be immersed in sound but also flavour and spirit of the authentic Cuban rum. Enjoy Cuban Classic cocktails while getting into your groove & enjoying the Latin festivities.
The biggest draw for people going is that festival fancy Ddess in your best Carnaval costumes is highly encouraged.
Big prizes for best style will be given out to those who make the effort to dress for the occasion. These include a pair of Vantastival Tickets, a €70 Voucher for The Exchequer Gastro-Pub, Bottle of Havana Club 3 Anos & A bottle of Havana Club Especial.
