Mark Stewart may be afflicted with Neurofibromatosis, the disease that inspired his debut album title, but that hasn’t stopped him from making a great record.
Mark Stewart may be afflicted with Neurofibromatosis, the disease that inspired his debut album title, but that hasn’t stopped him from making a great record. Equal parts electro abandon, wide screen escapism and intricate dance floor glitch, this complex, 13-track interface resurrects Detroit’s sense of dislocation, the Windy City’s funk and the lunacy of bleep bass rave. At times dark and menacing – especially on ‘Mono’ and ‘Section’ – but also beguilingly beautiful and fragile – ‘Tria’, ‘You Not Me’ and ‘Your Trophy’ – this subtle classic spans all the sounds, colours and moods of the electronic spectrum.
