The Divine Comedy's frontman Neil Hannon is working with My Lovely Horse Rescue to keep animals alive this winter.
The organization's name is derived from the theme tune to the Father Ted theme song, 'My Lovely Horse', written/composed by Hannon and Graham Linehan who are both helping the organization that nurses Ireland's mistreated horses back to health.
Hay supplies in Ireland are alarmingly low and the price of a bale has more than doubled (€40) since last year. The rescue organisation needs enough hay to feed the 250 animals currently in their care this winter, and to bring hay to abandoned horses in fields all over the country.
To help fund this mission, My Lovely Horse Rescue and Neil Hannon have launched a video campaign to help raise €60,000 to keep their horses fed – and lovely – this winter.
A two part video has been released showing Neil clambering onto the back of horse to sing the Father Ted tune, but his equestrian skills leave much to be desired and he soon finds himself in hot water. However, fans will only be able to see the second part of the video, and hear Neil singing My Lovely Horse, once the initial target of 20,000 has been reached.
The first part of the video can be viewed here:
My Lovely Horse Rescue is run entirely by volunteers and every cent donated goes to the animals.
While they appreciate every donation made, fans who wish to dig a little deeper will be rewarded with the following prizes:
- Donate €100 or more to receive a signed Christmas card from Neil Hannon.
- Donate €4,000 to win this exclusive VIP package for 12 friends, co-workers or family. Spend an action packed day on the rescue centre where you’ll be given a tour by co-founder Cathy Davey and enjoy an intimate acoustic performance by Neil Hannon
