My Sound
The production is tight, the guests are superb and the whole thing sort of glides along
It may be on G Stone, but Stereotyp’s intriguing album could just as well be on a hip-hop offshoot of Chain Reaction. If such a thing existed. Or how about imaging Kruder and Dorfmeister remixing Basic Channel with a little detour via Jamaica. ‘All Di Girl Com’ is outstanding – techno-meets-reggae with a wicked rudeboy vocal from Collage. ‘Trigger Culture’ is seriously rough; minimal, stuttery hip-hop beats with insane vocal action. And ‘Royal Jelly’ – with Tikiman – is beautiful; minimal electronic soul with a bit of a skank going on. Herbert Tubbs guests on ‘Tell Me’ – an r’n’b-inspired broken beat thing with gorgeous gospel chords and vocals. The production is tight, the guests are superb and the whole thing sort of glides along. Stick the headphones on, roll one and prepare to get interested.
