Metal bands flock to Ireland
Shrinebuilder, Watain & Volbeat all have gigs coming up here.
Doom metal supergroup Shrinebuilder open their Irish account in November with visits to The Button Factory, Dublin (29) and Cyprus Avenue, Cork (30).
Featuring assorted members of Saint Vitus, Om and Fantomas, they’ll be plugging their self-titled debut album, which is as epic as the genre gets. They’ve also been known to do a very passable cover of Joy Division’s ‘24 Hours’, as you can seen and hear below.
Also bound for the Button Factory on September 28 are Watain, the Swedish death metallers whose own Lawless Darkness collection has sold by the truckload in Germany and Scandinavia.
Finally on the longhair ‘n’ leather front, gold-shifting Danes Volbeat stop off in the Dublin Academy on November 25 where the asking price for tickets is €13.50.
Claiming Metallica, Social Distortion and Johnny Cash as their key influences, the quartet will be showcasing their new Beyond Hell/Above Heaven release, which rocks like a very hard bastard.
