Memphis
The Thrills meets the polyphonic spree – in a good way!
Filling the hole left by The Thrills and The Polyphonic Spree, Magic Kids' debut is a happy, clappy, summery slab of wax that (at times) sounds a bit like the “one of these kids is doing their own thing” song from Sesame Street. Pure cheese from start to finish, but it's hard not to raise a smile at the power-pop of 'Superball' and 'Little Red Radio.' Chock full of sweeping strings and bustling brass, Memphis is like a love letter to The Beach Boys' sappier moments and while it won't change the world, it will make it a happier place to live in for 30 minutes or so.
