Memento
This album is Booka Shade’s memento of past times, re-interpreted for future days.
Instead of just obsessing with the future, on their debut album, it seems that Booka Shade, aka Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, don’t put their past behind them. Throughout Memento, there are echoes of their synth pop and trance backgrounds, audible through hissing textures and intricate, de-constructed beat patterns. Recent single ‘Vertigo’ is a perfect example, boasting Kraftwerkian melodies over an intricate rhythm. However, like their GP comrades, Booka Shade also make their case for dance floor abandon forcefully, evident on the bleak, hypnotic ‘S.T.A.R.R.Z’ and ‘Cha’. This album is Booka Shade’s memento of past times, re-interpreted for future days.
