Mega Mega Mega
DJ/PRODUCTION PAIR AIMING TO BECOME DANCE MUSIC’S PREMIERE PARTY STARTERS
The Count (Joshua Harvey) and (Graeme) Sinden are a gluttonous twosome. Debut album Mega Mega Mega finds the dance music gourmets traversing the globe, gorging indiscriminately on a colourful audio smorgasbord – house, krautrock, afrobeat, hip hop, electro and more – before regurgitating the lot in visceral blasts of sound. The end product is a frantic, adventurous rollercoaster of a record.
As seems de rigueur for albums by contemporary Production/DJ duos – think Simian Mobile Disco’s Temporary Pleasure and Bloody Beetroots’ Romborama – the vocal contributors are many. Indie waifs Mystery Jets do their thing amidst the shimmering disco grooves of ‘After Dark’, grime MC Bashy brings a bit of street swagger to ‘Addicted To You’ and up-and-coming R&B songstress Katy B pleads chirpily on ‘Hold Me’.
By and large, the guests all bring something to the table, but it remains The Count & Sinden’s party and they prove excellent hosts, the thump and grind of ‘Mega’, the coursing techno of ‘Elephant 1234’, or hazy sign off that is ‘You Make Me Feel So Good’ all impressing. You may not find everything on their party platter to your liking, but there should still be lots on this effervescent record to jolt the senses of even the most jaded dance music fan.
