May Day Carnival finale concert to be held at Phoenix Park
Don Baker and King Sativa are among the artists confirmed to play the May Day Carnival. Meanwhile, Sinn Fein has condemned the "media hysteria" about the protests being planned for May 1
There's a chance to "Say No To Racism, War & Corporate Greed" on May 1, as the May Day Carnival takes to the streets of Dublin.
Beginning with an assembly at 12 noon outside the Central Bank in Dame Street, the carnival action then moves to the Infirmary Rd. entrance of the Phoenix Park, where Don Baker, King Sativa, Soukrous Allstars, Afrikico, Juliet Efper, Subtitles, Ray Flanagan and what the organisers are billing as "a very special guest" will be playing from 2.30pm onwards.
Meanwhile, Sinn Fein representative Daithi Doolan has accused the media of hyping up the possibility of violence at the May Day demonstrations currently being planned for Dublin.
"There's been a lot of unfounded hysteria in the media," he complains, "but they've given very little coverage to what the protests are actually about. People have suggested it is a protest against expansion, against letting in the new countries. On the contrary, we support expansion, but we – new member states and old – need to have a debate about the kind of EU that we are building."
