One half of the brother/sister duo Fiery Furnaces, Matthew Friedberger, will release a solo album. And the word 'pop' was mentioned.
The album will be released later this summer on the newly formed 859 Recordings and is actually comprised of two discs: Winter Woman and Holy Ghost Language School.
"For me, it wasn't really that different than recording a Furnaces record," said Friedberger. "I guess the only difference would be in that I had to sing everything."
The music could be quite a departure from the Furnaces' erractic song structure as Winter Woman will showcase Friedberger's pop songwriting skills while Holy Ghost Language School delves more into the 'concept album' department.

"Because I made them at the same time, I could use one record as a safety valve for the other," he explains "I'd work on three songs on one then go to the other record and record. It was good to have that back and forth; it really helped in figuring out how each record was supposed to be."
Touring, however, is out of the question as Friedberger intends on going back into the studio to record with his sister in Autumn. If she'll have him, that is.
