Matt Berninger and Rosanne Cash release cover of The Velvet Underground’s ‘Who Loves The Sun’
The cover was recorded for the upcoming Hulu series Sunny Nights
Matt Berninger and Rosanne Cash have released a cover of ‘Who Loves The Sun’, by The Velvet Underground, for the upcoming Hulu series Sunny Nights.
The series, directed by Trent O’Donnell (Review With Myles Barlow, The Chaser’s War On Everything), stars Will Forte (Saturday Night Live, The Four Seasons) and D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place, Barry) as siblings who set out to start a spray-tan business in Sydney, only to get tangled up in the city’s criminal underworld. Berninger and Cash’s cover will serve as the series’ theme song.
Berninger is the frontman of the band The National, and released his second solo album, Get Sunk, last May. Cash is the daughter of Johnny Cash, and an acclaimed musician in her own right, having won four Grammy Awards over her over 40 year career.
The song was produced by Cash’s husband, John Leventhal.
“I’ve been a Trent O’Donnell fan for a long time,” said Berninger of creating the song. “We became good friends when he cast my brother, Tom, in an episode of his show No Activity, and we’ve had a close, creative bond ever since. When he asked me to cover The Velvet Underground for Sunny Nights, I immediately thought of it as a duet with Rose and John.
“We recorded it in their Chelsea [Manhattan] brownstone last summer. John did most of the work while Rose and I drank chardonnay in the garden in the sun.”
Sunny Nights premieres on March 11, and ‘Who Loves The Sun’ is out now.
