Mating Season
The Belgians have always been one step ahead in electronic music - Telex, New Beat, R&S - and now Antwerp artist Dijf Sanders’ debut album takes the listener on a trip to new sonic territories.
The Belgians have always been one step ahead in electronic music - Telex, New Beat, R&S - and now Antwerp artist Dijf Sanders’ debut album takes the listener on a trip to new sonic territories. Although it’s an electronic album, ‘Season’ has a live, unplanned feel throughout. Chaotic in his arrangements, Sanders nonetheless knows how to imbue his work with emotions. There’s the chilled, jazzy ‘Lonely Dog Hater’, the emotive ambient folk of ‘Babysitter’s Zen Moment’ and the upbeat live vocal house of ‘Bestial Boezem’. However, these are just three examples of Sanders’ magic touch and his fusion of glitchy beats, Warp-influenced breaks, lush ambience and soulful instrumentation throughout ‘Season’ teems with his seventh soulful sense.
