The legendary producer died on Saturday.
Hot Press is greatly saddened by the passing of 63-year-old Martin Rushent, one of the giants of UK production who during his 1970s and 1980s purple patch worked with such a diverse range of artists as The Stranglers, Fleetwood Mac, T.Rex, Yes, Petula Clark, XTC, Buzzcocks and Shirley Bassey.
His finest moment was arguably twiddling the knobs on the Human League’s groundbreaking Dare album, which was a huge critical as well as a commercial success.
News of his death was broken by his son James who’s the guitarist in Does It Offend You, Yeah?
“Martin Rushent was not just James’ dad, but also someone very involved with the shaping of DIOYY and countless other musicians he worked with. He had an amazing character and was a great friend to all of us. Rest in peace, sitting at your mixing desk in the sky.”
