Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas is You' tops US charts for the first time
The iconic Christmas anthem has finally slid into the number one slot, 25 years after its initial release.
Well, it's official: 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' is Mariah Carey's nineteenth number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song, originally released all the way back in 1994 has charted consecutively for years, but this year it's made it all the way up to number one.

For the first four years of the songs release, it was unable to compete for the top spot since the song was not technically a single. Rather, the global hit was part of her Merry Christmas album.
That changed in December 1998, when cuts off an album were welcomed to the US top songs list, bumping Carey's song onto the chart for the first time on January 8, 2000.
Similarly, The Pogues' ‘Fairytale of New York’ has appeared in the UK and Irish charts consecutively for the past 16 years all without ever reaching a number one. Will this be its year? We'll have to wait and see. As of now, it sits at number 21 in Ireland.
