Beach Boys Go Garage-Punk: Great Fun
Sounding like their instruments are held together with sawdust and rubber bands, Nottingham lo-fi garage punks Lovvers’ debut album is a fiery statement of intent. Full of shuffling beats and choppy guitars (Steve Vai they ain’t) OCD Go Go Go Girls’ Beach Boys-gone-garage sound is great fun. Don’t expect any real depth though. The likes of ‘Creepy Crawl’ and ‘I Want To (Go)’ are fist-in-the-air stompers, but rarely do Lovvers say anything meaningful during their two-minute slacker anthems. Still, who’s complaining when you’ve got the kind of songs that insurance salesman Iggy Pop would sell his saggy ass for, eh?
