Longitude Special: Kaytranada and Skepta 'Shutdown' the main stage
Two of the biggest names in hip-hop took to Longitude’s main stage in the stifling heat, drawing the bucket-hatted multitudes with their vastly different styles.
First up was Montreal man Kaytranada who showcased why he's one of the most in-demand producers around with his laid-back jazz-informed blend of house and hip-hop. His remix of Ray Ayers’ ‘Chicago’ was a highlight.
“They used to say, no blacks, no Irish, no dogs… fuck 'em!” Skepta has led the renaissance of grime and showcased why in a highly charged set that encouraged pits by the dozen. Backed by DJ Maximum, who sported a Celtic polo, the Boy Better Know kingpin brought out labelmates, but hardly needed such tricks with hits like ‘That's Not Me’, 'Shutdown’ and Queens of the Stone Age sampling closer 'Man’.
