Long To Belong

Mark Pember follows his 1998 debut album with Long To Belong, a far more dance floor friendly incarnation. The man behind the esteemed Whole 9 Yards label, Pember is best known for his break beat work. However, apart from a few notable exceptions, including the recent single ‘Rotten Dot Com’, the pulsating tones of ‘Lapdance’ and the quasi-industrial ‘Bring Yourself Off Again’, …Belong sees Pember head off into a different direction with a succession of sleazy, bass heavy 4/4 bombs. Maybe he’s realised that there’s a limited amount of DJs who will champion his break beat material or perhaps it’s because his dark, tripped out, bottom heavy arrangements work just as well when underpinned by a relentless kick. Either way, …Belong rocks, pure and simple.
