Loah releases cover of Thin Lizzy's 'Dancing In The Moonlight'
Thin Lizzy originally released the track on their 1977 album Bad Reputation.
Loah has released her cover of Thin Lizzy's 'Dancing In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In Its Spotlight)', to mark the 40th anniversary of frontman Phil Lynott's passing.
The Irish-Sierra Leonan singer released the song on Monday, after years of covering the song during live performances. Loah made her debut in 2016 with her Afro-soul EP Take It, and has since gone on to release a collaborative EP Sweet Sorrow, with electronic instrumentalist, Bantum, and When I Rise Up, an album of recorded 1920s poetry.
Her cover of 'Dancing In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In Its Spotlight)' was recorded alongside Dublin-based jazz pianist Johnny Taylor.
“This beautiful song has lived in my heart and my mind since I was a young ‘un, whether blaring from a speaker on late nights in the endless Dublin summer with friends or in headphones on the bus home from town," said Loah.
"It is so romantic and such a sweet homage to the spirit of Dublin, nostalgic and hopeful all at the same time. My mum grew up around the corner from Phil Lynott in Crumlin and his songs always feel like home. He was not just a great rock star and performer but also an incredible songwriter."
Lynott passed away at the age of 36 in 1986. His memory was also honoured on the anniversary this past Sunday evening, with the 3Arena hosting "The Dedication: Remembering Phil Lynott".
