Living Things
Nu Metal veterans revisit their roots.
You have to respect Linkin Park for their perseverance. While former peers such as Papa Roach and Static X seemed to lose their life-jackets when the nu metal ship inevitably sank, Linkin Park,have continued to thrive.
Living Things is their fifth album and, in the wake of the release of their genre-straddling, politicised 2010 offering A Thousand Suns, it boasts more of “classic” style. Beginning with the slightly bizarre ‘Lost In Echo’ (which sounds suspiciously like a rap rock version of the Wanted’s ‘Glad You Came’) they hit their stride with ‘Burn It Down’ and the manic, scream-fest that is ‘Lies Greed Misery’. Admittedly there is nothing on Living Things that will appease extreme metallers, but that was never an option for the band post Hybrid Theory. If you’re a fully paid up Linkin Park aficionado you’ll love the likes of ‘Castle Of Glass’ and ‘Skin To Bone’: ultimately their fifth record should ensure the six-piece further longevity.
