Living On The Other Side

If, like this writer, you’ve found yourself longing for a little bit of warmth and sunshine recently, then fret no more, as San Diego-based four-piece The Donkeys have taken some of that summer magic and injected it into their new album Living On The Other Side. It’s hard not to be charmed by the Byrds-esque melodies and lilting guitar tones on songs such as ‘Downtown Jenny’ and ‘Boot On The Seat,’ and there’s even a little bit of Cat Power’s Southern fried balladry thrown in for good measure too (‘Dolphin Center’). What the record lacks in lyrical insight, it more than makes up for in charm, so settle back, open a bottle of Jack Daniel’s and make a toast to the good times, cos these days we need them now more than ever.
