Live Review: Voxx @ Forbidden Fruit
If Ziggy Stardust had a lovechild with The Darkness, and said child was heavily influenced by Tim Curry, the result would be Voxx. The self-described “neo-gothic glam punk” outfit have been cursed with an early showtime on the second day of Forbidden Fruit, but frankly, it’s everyone else’s loss.
As the leopard print and netting-clad five-piece begin, they have an audience of approximately eight. Before they finish, a crowd is gathering, and if the set had gone on longer they could easily have filled the Lighthouse tent. Lead vocalist Coco’s impressive range coalesces nicely with Niamh and Ciara’s smooth backing vocals, with sultry “ooh la la’s” adding sophistication to Voxx’s glamour. A performance of their February single ‘Glamour Puss’ boasts impressive harmonies, while the technical ability of Slice and Drew on bass and drums respectively is confidently polished.
Voxx have been a highlight of Forbidden Fruit so far – don’t miss them chatting to Hot Press in the Speakeasy tent this afternoon at 5pm.
