The artist is best known for her 2002 hit, 'Murder On The Dancefloor.'
Sophie Ellis-Bextor brought disco to Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday, filling the venue with two nights of glitzy pop.
Opening up her final show was electronic duo Sumner. Coming all the way from Tasmania, the pair worked in harmony to deliver a captivating performance. Vocalist Chloe Wilson dominated the room, throwing herself into the mic and prowling across stage. Her voice was bathed in distortion, while Jack McLaine manned the keys and soundboard. Pulsating bass shook the venue, as they performed their 2025 dance track 'When You're Alone.'
“Thank you so much for coming out early, we really appreciate it!” said Wilson. “This is unreal, and it's because of beautiful people like you who buy tickets and support artists, which means that little people like us – Jack and I – we can come from Tasmania and we get to show our art to you. Thank you so much!”

The crowd, riddled in sparkly 80's-inspired attire, matched Ellis-Bextor's energy with near perfection. The artist appeared on stage, sporting a shiny blue pleated jacket over an even shinier black dress. It soon became clear that the heights of her glamour would match her performance quality, opening her set with the 2025 single 'Relentless Love.' Her voice glided above a groovy bass line, guitar, drums and keys. Spinning across the stage like a disco ballerina, Ellis-Bextor quickly had the audience enraptured with movement.
"Well, I have been looking forward to seeing you ever since this tour got announced!" she told the crowd. "When we first put this tour on sale there was no Dublin date." Fans erupted in boos.
"I know, I know," she replied. "So we put tickets on sale, and it sold out first! So thank you so much Dublin. You are just enthusiastic, and that is a joy to my heart."
Eccentric visuals heightened her performance, with dancing fruits and vegetables spiraling behind her as she sang 'Taste.' Strobing white lights flashed the audience, who happily clapped along.
"Enough chit chat," she said. "I was talking about dancing with you, and that is what I feel like doing. Because I can feel in the air it's gonna be pretty special."
The artist began performing 'Hypnotized,' a groovy song released back in 2022. As Ellis-Bextor broke out into a choreographed dance routine, I watched half the venue follow along, already familiar with each move. It was clear the UK singer has extremely devoted fans, lost in a soundscape of bass and synths.

During her performance of the 2023 track 'Hearing in Colour,' Ellis-Bextor disappeared back stage before returning in a new, glimmering outfit. She wore a glitzy blue bodysuit, with shiny streamers draped over her shoulders. Oozing with confidence, the artist was a natural performer.
"I turned 46 last month," she shared. "This year marks 30 years since I did my first ever gig... As the years went by, I noticed that there's so much talk around pop music about having to be young to be doing pop. And, I have just found that that is not really the case!"
The artist continued her night of disco, but couldn't leave the venue without performing 'Murder On The Dancefloor.' The iconic song was released back in 2002, but still remains a fan favourite. The audience danced uninhibited, captivated by Ellis-Bextor's sultry voice.
After leaving the stage, the artist returned to perform two encores. For her final song, she climbed into the box seat just underneath me, and performed an acoustic version of 'A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed' by Theaudience. A hush fell over the crowd, entranced by her obvious vocal prowess.
Filled with glitz, glamour and loads of dancing, Ellis-Bextor remains a necessary presence in disco.
