Live Report: Sienna Spiro revives 60s glamour in the 3Olympia
Sienna Spiro transforms Dublin’s 3Olympia into a velvet-draped time capsule, delivering a performance full of old-Hollywood glamour, strong vocals and the confidence of an artist far beyond her years.
Elton John called her “genuinely exciting”, while Sam Smith brought her on stage to perform her viral track ‘Die on This Hill’, which reached number nine on the UK charts. All of that at just 20 years old and without even having released a full record yet.
That perhaps explains the relatively short runtime of Sienna Spiro's sold-out set at the 3Olympia Theatre on Wednesday evening, clocking in at just over an hour. Nonetheless, the London native puts on a show that feels straight out of a smoke-filled champagne lounge, with Spiro’s voice carrying the weight of a long-lost 60s soul singer.

She knows exactly what she represents and clearly loves the dramatic effect. When the music stops and the lights cut out, except for a single spotlight pointed at the microphone, Spiro steps into view. Her outfit fits the aesthetic perfectly: a shift dress, knee-high boots and a bouffant hairstyle that strongly recalls Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence era.
When Spiro begins singing the opening notes of the ochestral ballad 'The Visitor', the roughly 1,200-strong crowd, made up largely of women in their twenties and teenage girls (and the occasional accompanying dad), erupts instantly.

As the concert progresses, Spiro further shows off both her elegance and her ability to command a crowd. She playfully interacts with each of her four band members, moves effortlessly to the rhythm and plays the piano with ease. With the spotlight (quite literally) fixed entirely on her, it would be easy for imperfections to show through. Instead, she delivers with remarkable control, despite later revealing she is battling a strong flu.

With ‘Dream Police’, Spiro introduces a darker, more cinematic tone, driven by heavier drums and a haunting atmosphere. ‘Origami’, meanwhile, strips things back again, a fragile ballad built largely around soft violins and minimal instrumentation. Listeners searching for dramatic sonic variety may find themselves somewhat out of place, as a lot of Spiro’s catalogue falls into the realm of “sad girl music”. But that is hardly a flaw.
Near the end of the set, after chants of “ole ole ole” ripple through the venue, she closes with ‘Die on This Hill’, during which the crowd at the back of the 3Olympia nearly drowns her out.

With this performance, Sienna Spiro proves that she is up there with the likes of Amy Winehouse and Raye in her ability to revive the glamour and emotional intensity of an earlier era.
