Live Report: Alessi Rose delivers bangingly fun set to Electric Picnic 3 Music Stage

Since the release of her debut single ‘Say Ur Mine’ in 2023, English pop star Alessi Rose has known an exponential rise to fame, releasing 3 EPs to widespread critical acclaim and opening for the likes of Tate McRae, Dua Lipa and Noah Kahan.

As she takes over the 3 Music Stage on the early evening of Electric Picnic day 1, the reason for her list of her accomplishments appears crystal-clear. Incredible charisma, unending charm and crystal-clear, perfectly controlled vocals: Rose has the perfect recipe down to be an absolute hit.

The last time Rose played in Ireland dates back to earlier this summer, for an opening slot for Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism tour. This time, though, she is taking charge of the stage all by herself, the picture of a church altar projected on the screen behind her. Despite the small size of the tent, she makes the space feel as huge as an arena, totally in control of her audience and her set and dazzlingly elegant.

Juxtaposing sulfurous confidence with a good-humoured and delightful attitude, Rose oscillates between sugary-sweet, lively pop anthems and rock-tinged, rousingly fun numbers, like the deliciously intense ‘That Could Be Me’. On the gorgeously beautiful ‘oh my’, which the singer describes as “a sad song, but fun,” her performance is enchantingly charming, sexy and never-endingly cool. Although the tent isn’t packed, the crowd is incredibly responsive to her performance, singing back every word like a make-shift choir.

On the emotionally heavy ‘pretty world’, Rose allows herself a moment to slow down. Comparatively to the rest of her discography, the track appears simpler, more stripped back, allowing for the singers’ vocal performance and her melodic flair to shine like no other.

As she is set to head back to Dublin in November for two nights in 3Olympia, there is no doubt that Alessi Rose will, once again, offer a widely entertaining performance to her crowd of loyal fans.
