New album sees the boys become men
After spending the best part of a decade releasing average to good albums and touring with the likes of Julian Casablancas and Deerhunter, it would seem that American roots ‘n’ roll band The Strange Boys have finally come of age. Their third full-length outing is a bit of a belter.
Full of laidback country-tinged rock riffs and bourbon-soaked boogie woogie numbers (‘Omnia Boa’) the record mixes a dash of The Rolling Stones’ ear for melodies, a pinch of The Libertines’ ramshackle rattle and a healthy dose of slacker charm to create an infectious sound. What’s more, singer Ryan Sambol’s laconic croon helps inject songs such as ‘Walking Two By Two’ with just the right amount of punk rock attitude. Fans of Alabama Shakes and Kings Of Leon take note.
