This year's Live at the Marquee kicked off with thrash titans Megadeth. Eric Egan reports for Hot Press...
Expectations were high for Dave Mustaine and company: a blistering new album, Endgame, and the 20th anniversary of the classic Rust in Piece had the long haired hordes quivering in anticipation.
From the opening chords of 'Dialetic Chaos' til the closing strains of 'Peace Sells' it was heads down and horns up as the band ripped through a mind-blowing set.
The centre-piece was, of course, the Rust in Piece album, played in its entirety. Could its technical compexity, controlled aggression and virtuoso playing be replicated live? A resounding yes.
Mustaine and fellow axeman Chris Broderick performed guitar jihad for 'Holy Wars' and slashed impressively through 'Hangar 18'. Add to that a heartfelt 'In My Darkest Hour', a searing 'Sweating Bullets' and a singalong-inducing 'Toute La Monde'.

Original bassist Dave Ellefson, now back in the fold after many years absence, added another dimension, exhorting an enthusiastic crowd, who needed little encouragement, to join in as the band sped through their set at lightning pace. This was a headcrusher of a performance that took no prisoners. Metalliwho? Awesome!
