Meaty debut from meath troubadour
Some things never go out of style. A catchy melody, an inventive guitar riff or a lyric that could make Mr T weak at the knees will always be relevant no matter how much technology moves on, and Meath singer/songwriter Eugene Donegan seems to agree with this writer. His debut is filled to the brim with tunes that wear their hearts on their sleeve, and some of the tracks genuinely have a timeless quality to them (‘Heaven Is A Place Inside,’ ‘Mary Kate’). Far from being a typical three chords and the truth troubadour, Eugene also mixes it up with rockier songs like the AC/DC aping ‘It’s Not My Circus’ and it skilfully shows that this singer has more than a few tricks up his sleeve.
Key Track: 'Mary Kate'
