LISTEN: New Irish band Thewlis share debut single 'The Boy Behind Bowie'
Former members of Mahogany Men, Danny McElhinney and Cormac Curtis, have shared their first single together as Thewlis.
Thewlis, a brand new band from Dublin, have released their glam rock-influenced debut single, 'The Boy Behind Bowie'.
The track was inspired by the Thin White Duke's iconic performance of 'Starman' on Top of The Pops in 1972 and ponders "whatever happened to the spellbound young man, dancing in the audience behind Bowie and Mick Ronson that night," according to a press release.
It also states that Thewlis' new tune is about "the fear that you have already lived your best life."
Both members of the new band, Danny McElhinney on vocals and guitars and Cormac Curtis on guitars and backing vocals, were members of the '90s group Mahogany Men. Although this is the first officially released song by the duo, they have been writing together for nearly thirty years.
You may also recognise McElhinney from his work as a music columnist for the Mail on Sunday.
Speaking about Thewlis, he says that "Myself and Cormac were in a band called Mahogany Men in the nineties. We have been writing together on and off for nearly 30 years, regardless of what we've been doing in other jobs but never released anything. We'll be releasing another song in March and another in June and more after that. We've waited long enough.'
Thewlis' debut single 'The Boy Behind Bowie' is out now on all streaming services.
