The hauntingly beautiful castle could be set to host its first live music event in twelve years.
Limerick's King John's Castle could be set to host what Shannon Heritage have described as "a significant music event" in 2016.
The last time King John's played host to a live musical event was in 2004, when The Frames headlined an event there. Despite a number of efforts to bring similar events to the castle's grounds in the interim, it has proven difficult to do so.
Although Limerick has the much loved Thomond Park as a space for larger and more significant musical events, the grounds were quiet this year. Two years ago, Bruce Springsteen rocked the rugby fortress to its core, but this year Limerick has lost out on top international acts.
John Ruddle, CEO of Shannon Heritage - who manage the site - hopes that King John's Castle can enliven the tourism in the area by making a musical event possible on the grounds.

“We are in discussions with concert promoters to explore the potential of holding a significant music event at King John’s Castle,” said Mr Ruddle, speaking to the Limerick Leader.
“We think it would be a wonderful location for concerts and we are actively pursuing this,” he added.
Meanwhile Shannon Group CEO Neil Pakey stated that the venue had “great potential”. As reported in the Limerick Leader, Pakey stated, “What we want to do with King John’s is give it events all the time,” said Mr Pakey at the launch. “I am talking to various people about big music events next year, maybe with 2,000 people coming along to it."
