Like A Man
Leonard’s son finally comes of age.
Like Jakob Dylan, Zak Starkey and, um, wee Kimmy Krankie, Adam Cohen is an artist who, through no fault of his own, has struggled to live in the shadow of a famous father. Like A Man is his third solo album in 12 years and, whether he admits to it or not, much of the music on the LP is hugely indebted to the influence of his dad Leonard. Employing the same skeletal song structures and sparse musicianship that made the Cohen name famous, the record is about him finally growing up and feeling comfortable in his own skin. Tracks like ‘Sweet Dominique’ and ‘Girls These Days’ are tender ballads that should see the singer start to receive some deserved recognition in his own right.
