Liber Eth
WILFULLY OBTUSE, COMPLEX, BEWILDERING BEAST
For so many reasons, Jung Turks' Liber Eth is a willfully obtuse and sometimes bewildering beast of a record. Comprising of meandering, at times ambient, musical passages, the record teases the ear-drums like an experienced hooker from Amsterdam but very rarely gives us a climax ('Fearless B & The Works Of G', 'Meserev'). An unashamedly dense and complex record, the Turks' flirtations with old Hammer Horror-esque scores ('This Slave's Freedom Cries') work well but ultimately, for this reviewer, the jazz breakdowns left me feeling cold.
