Let Me Come Home
Scottish critical darlings channel Tindersticks & Arcade Fire
While critics fell over themselves to fawn about Scottish six-piece Broken Records’ debut offering Until The Earth Begins To Part, for a multitude of different reasons its sprawling sound just didn’t seem to connect with Joe Public. Let Me Come Home is their second stab at things and is relatively restrained in its vision in comparison to their earlier, more grandiose effort. Calling to mind the likes of the Tindersticks and Arcade Fire, the music is a melodramatic mix of lovesick laments and brooding waltzes. Highlights include the gorgeous murder ballad that is ‘Dia Dos Namorados!” and the spiraling ‘A Darkness Rises Up’. In short, if you’re willing to give the album time to sink into your subconscious, then you’ll be richly rewarded.
Key Track: ‘Dia Dos Namorados!’
