Let It Ride
Wicklow strummers channel Dylan, Kristofferson
The spirits of Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan and more are all invoked on Bray Vista’s second record, a full-on country affair from start to finish. No punches are pulled, no cliché is too cheesy to play with and the nine-piece from Wicklow are as convincing as they come in regards to their commitment to the genre. So much so, that – apart from the name – you’d swear they all grew up near the Mississippi drinking moonshine all night long. While the likes of ‘Never Been One’ and ‘First Impressions’ are good songs, they mightn’t be everyone’s glass of whiskey. No worries: this is a fine country record and the musicianship and production (courtesy of Nashville’s Jim Lauderdale and Leo Parson) are first class throughout. One to taste and try...
