Leonard Cohen's Happy Compared To Me
Do the slightly worn sounds of Leonard Cohen’s Happy Compared To Me warrant the accolade? Well, kinda.
The Minnows’ latest opus is the first release on the newly reactivated Good Vibrations label. Arguably the most famous record company in Ireland, from a personal point of view it’s great to see Good Vibes back in action, but do the slightly worn sounds of Leonard Cohen’s Happy Compared To Me warrant the accolade? Well, kinda. In order to get a true taste of The Minnows you need to give them a bit of time, but once you do you’ll keep returning to it just like an old comfy cardigan. Some songs (‘Something New’, ‘Baby Blue’) are potentially the best of their career to date – which just goes to show that it’s never too late to get a second chance.
Key track: ‘Something New’
