Scottish muso's latest experiment is a massive misfire.
Maverick musician and occasional Isobel Campbell, the Pastels and Aiden Moffett collaborator Bill Wells continues his flirtation with underground Japanese music on his latest LP Lemonadde. According to legend the album was created by 14 different musicians who only just met in Tokyo on the day of recording. If that story is indeed true, then it explains (at least in some part) why the opus is a meandering, directionless ‘Jazz Odyssey’-esque snore-fest. The bizarre ‘Piano Rolls’ is a particularly patience-testing number that’s merely a random collection of sounds that neither excite nor interest. Most of the 11 tracks will make the majority of readers wish the musicians involved stayed at home and updated their Facebook status instead of going into the studio to make their mess of a record. Avoid.
