Learning
SPARSE, SUBLIME, HAUNTING AND STAGGERINGLY MOVING
If you've recently found yourself missing the hauntingly beautiful yet emaciated music of Cat Power, then fret no more, as Seattle's Perfume Genius (AKA Mike Hadreas) is here to carry on that grand tradition of making horrible human experiences into quite beautiful music. Learning is a staggeringly moving record. Hadreas' willowy, echoing vocals are sublime and his compositions, though sparse in arrangement, are no less spectacular for it. This is music of real guile and subatance. Don't be too surprised if Perfume Genius do an XX and cross over into the mainstream.
