The Guinness Open Gate Brewery is to host the new LCD Soundsystem exhibition.
From June 1-22, the exhibition will be open to the public to view exclusive never seen before photographs and artworks of the American rockband.
Photography by Ruvan Wijesooriya’s this colourful exhibition documents LCD Soundsystem’s journey from nobodies to international stars. These images are intimate and personal, Wijesooria captures the essence of this iconic band.
In addition, the brewery also holds 11 paintings by collaborator and artist Joe Henry to go alongside the photographs and re-create LCD's own pop artworks. With the success of Henry's curated 'The Lost Warhols' exhibition at Brown Thomas, this exhibition is not to be missed.
“Ruvan is the official photographer for LCD and has the best collection of the band I have ever seen," says Joe Henry, "His access and friendship with LCD is something rare in the commercialised and controlled music industry of today, and this close relationship can be seen in the rapport between photographer and subject.
"He shot the two covers for 'This is Happening' and 'Bye Bye Bayou'. His work is purely documentary style, living with the band in LA and NYC and documenting them in the studio, on the road and live," Henry continues. "We both discussed collaborating on this exhibition and me doing a ' Remix ' of his original photography, putting my own pop art spin on top of his photos.”
On Jun1, the opening day of the exhibition, Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem will play an exclusive DJ set.
The exhibition will operate in general Guinness Open Gate Brewery opening hours, Thursday and Friday from 5:30pm - 10:30pm and Saturdays from 2.00pm – 8.00pm. Tickets for the launch event are priced at €25 and regular day exhibition tickets (including a tasting padel) fall at €9, they can be bought on the Guinness Open Brewery website here.
