Lauren Bennett, British singer featured on LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem dies aged 37
Bennett's girl group G.R.L. appeared on Pitbull's 2014 single 'Wild Wild Love' and released their biggest hit 'Ugly Heart' that same year.
British singer Lauren Bennett, whose voice appears on LMFAO’s 2011 hit song ‘Party Rock Anthem,’ passed away on May 29 at the age of 37.
“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren,” Bennett’s former musical group G.R.L. shared on its Instagram account on Monday. “Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us.”
Her bandmates and representatives have not publicly revealed a cause of death.
The Kent-born singer began her career at 14, entering local talent contests and singing in pubs before competing in The X Factor. She was sent home after making it to the final 12 but was then asked to audition for a new girl group called Paradiso Girls.
After joining the band, Bennett moved to Los Angeles, California at 17.
Paradiso Girls’ most popular song was Patron Tequila (2009) featuring Lil Jon and Eve, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
After being featured on Party Rock Anthem alongside GoonRock, she joined G.R.L. a reboot of US girl group The Pussycat Dolls. A five-piece all-women band, members consisted of Bennett, Paula Van Oppen, Natasha Slayton, Simone Battle and Emmalyn Estrada.
G.R.L. appeared on Pitbull’s 2014 single ‘Wild Wild Love’ and released their biggest hit ‘Ugly Heart’ that same year. The song reached UK Top 20 and the Top 5 in Australia and New Zealand.
After the death of member Simone Battle to suicide in 2014, the band released a tribute single ‘Lighthouse,’ and teamed up with mental health charity Give an Hour.
The group continued to perform occasionally and briefly reunited in 2020 as a four-piece.
Bennett is survived by her young daughter, Harlow, whom she shared with dancer and Footloose actor Kenny Wormald.
“RIP Lauren my sister my best friend I can’t believe you left us,” wrote former Paradiso Girls bandmate, Aria Crescendo, on Instagram. “We spoke a week before it all happened and I could not imagine that would be the last time I would be able to talk to you.”
“Love you and miss you forever.”
